Lantern & Leaf

Audiobooks and ebooks, for Android

Lantern & Leaf

Listen by lantern. Read by leaf.

A quiet, lamplit room for your books. Audiobooks and ebooks live side by side, and when a book has both, the room dims, a lantern hangs over the lines being read, and the page turns with the narrator's voice.

Glow-along

Listen and read at once.

The narrator reads to you while a warm pool of light follows the words. Look away, look back, and you're exactly where the voice is.

  • Tap any sentence and the voice goes there.
  • The page turns itself as the narrator reaches the end of it.
  • It all happens on your phone. Lantern & Leaf listens to the audiobook once to learn where every sentence is, and nothing is uploaded.
The Wind in the WillowsChapter I

The Mole had been working very hard all the morning, spring-cleaning his little home. First with brooms, then with dusters; then on ladders and steps and chairs, with a brush and a pail of whitewash; till he had dust in his throat and eyes, and splashes of whitewash all over his black fur, and an aching back and weary arms. Spring was moving in the air above and in the earth below and around him, penetrating even his dark and lowly little house with its spirit of divine discontent and longing.

Made for evenings

Everything a reader and a listener wants, and nothing in the way.

A reader that gets out of the way

The words fill the screen. The bars come when you reach for them and fade when you don't. Themes, typefaces and sizes that feel like your own copy, with a dictionary a tap away.

A player made for evenings

Speed, chapters, bookmarks and clips. A sleep timer that fades you out gently, and in the morning offers to go back to where you drifted off.

The story so far

Pick a book up after a week away and get a spoiler-free recap, the characters you've met and where you left them, built on your phone only from the pages you've read.

Shelves that know a series

Books gather into their series in order, so the next one is always waiting. Finished books are pressed as leaves into your herbarium.

Notes in your own voice

Highlights, notes and voice notes in each book's notebook. Voice notes are written out on your phone, never uploaded.

Your library, your files

Add audiobooks and ebooks you own. Lantern & Leaf keeps your place in every one, plays offline, and backs up your library when you ask it to.

Ember the fox peeking over a ledge, a leaf tucked behind one ear

Meet Ember

A small fox keeps the lantern lit.

Ember is a fox cub with a small brass lantern, who trots along the bottom of your library, stops to look up at you, and curls up to sleep when the evening gets late. Company, not a mascot that wants something from you.

Wherever you are

On your phone, your TV and in the car.

Phone

The lock screen, your headphones and Bluetooth all drive the player. It keeps going with the screen off.

Android TV

A real TV app built for the remote, with gentle bedtime dimming and a kids' corner of big covers. Pair it with your phone over Wi-Fi and your books and place stay in step.

Android Auto

Continue listening, your library and series right on the car's screen. Ask for "book three" by voice, skip chapters and change speed without reaching for the phone.

Your books stay yours.

No account to make, no ads, no tracking. Everything you read, hear and note lives on your phone. If you love it, a single optional purchase keeps the lantern lit and adds a few thank-you extras.
